Connecting schools and employers in Berkshire

Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has secured a match between an Enterprise Adviser and a college in the Thames Valley Berkshire sub-region. The scheme aims to help students understand the world of work and the vast range of employment and training opportunities available to them.

Bracknell and Wokingham Further Education College is another Thames Valley Berkshire educational establishment to take part in the initiative and receive support from Enterprise Advisers, Peter Smith of Thames Valley Business Advisers and Richard Knight, Owner of Focal Point Advertising, who will provide strategic advice on employer engagement.

Peter Smith said, “This is an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between schools, colleges and businesses and will help to ensure students possess the necessary skills for the workplace when they leave education. It is crucial to link this with the College’s curriculum in order to meet the skills shortages in Berkshire.”

Richard Knight commented, “I am delighted to be working with Bracknell and Wokingham College; as an Enterprise Adviser, it is my role, with the support of the LEP based Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator, to help improve links with employers in Berkshire to facilitate work experience placements.”

James Taylor, Vice Principal at Bracknell and Wokingham College, added, “We are pleased to be matched with Peter Smith and Richard Knight; as industry professionals, they will assist in bringing to life the enterprise activities that our students participate in. We are proud of our students having the best achievement rates in the Thames Valley region and strive to provide the best support to their ambitions as they enter the world of work. This can be a very daunting and busy time for students, so we greatly appreciate the advice we will receive from Peter and Richard.”
